Helen Beatrix Potter (1866-1943). English writer, illustrator, natural scientist and conservationist best known for her children’s books featuring Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck and many more. This tour of the Lake District countryside and rural life that inspired her, visits the homes and places she is associated with, including Hilltop, Hawkshead, Wray Castle, Tarn Hows and Coniston.

A POPULAR TOUR OF THE PLACES & SCENERY ASSOCIATED WITH BEATRIX POTTER

  • Pick up/Drop off: Door to door (or otherwise arranged)
  • Cross Windermere lake via ferry.
  • Depart on the Western shore and on to Claiffe Heights viewpoint.
  • Continue your journey to Hilltop, Beatrix Potter’s home, now owned by the National Trust, for an early morning entrance to the house, gardens and gift shop.
  • After your visit continue onto the village of Hawkshead visiting the smaller Beatrix Potter Gallery also owned and operated by the National Trust.
  • Your tour continues to Wray Castle, a Victorian Castle with amazing views over Windermere and visited by Beatrix Potter.
  • Journey via Barngates to the Lake District beauty spot of Tarn Hows, a man-made scenic tarn known for its stunning landscaping, woodlands and of course the tarn.
  • From here your tour takes you over to the majestic lake of Coniston and the Bluebird Café, named after the famous Donald Campbell speed boat.
  • You return around lunchtime via Ambleside and along the eastern shore of Windermere to your pick-up point.

  • Ferry crossing Bowness to Claiffe Heights (when available)
